Blue Heron Lodge was named after the Great Blue Heron. The Great Blue Heron is the largest heron in North America and can have a seven foot wing span. It has blue-grey wings and can be found feeding along the shoreline for live fish at dusk and dawn. The Blue Heron is not a very common bird to see on Lake Vermilion but is quite a sight when you do see one. Blue Heron Lodge is likewise a rare species on Lake Vermilion. There are few rental properties of this size and nearly none of the quality of Blue Heron Lodge. Blue Heron Lodge was built in the fall of 2006 and began rentals in 2007.
