RANTALAHTI CABIN HISTORY

Rantalahti Cabin Rantalahti Shoreline Rantalahti Master Bedroom Rantalahti Bathroom

This family cabin is named Rantalahti (Ranta's Bay) to honor the couple that built the cottage and raised their family there. The cabin was originally built in 1972 by Toi Ranta. He was decorated for bravery during WWII as a member of the Mountain Division fighting in both Europe and the Aleutian Islands. When he returned from the war he taught English in Hibbing where Bob Dylan was one of his students.  He was eventually able to accomplish his goal of building a cabin on the north side of the lake where he was able to experience more peace and solitude.  All the building materials were hand carried to the location for the original build. For many years, the post man delivered his mail by boat.

Rantalahti has been added to and renovated many times over the years. The cabin was newly renovated in 2006 adding completely new bathrooms with new tile, cabinets, fixtures and tongue and groove knotty pine. The bedrooms were updated with new lights, fans, tongue and groove pine, and mattresses. The pipes were replaced and a new septic system was installed. Rantalahti now looks brand new!

Because of the cabins age it is extremely close to the waters edge (now prohibited by zoning regulations) offering great views on the water. It also features a wet boathouse for covered boat parking another amenity that only historical buildings are permitted to have.
